Temperatures in the world’s oceans have broken alarming records, setting new highs for more than 42 straight days in an “unprecedented” run, prompting warnings from scientists that Earth has reached “uncharted territory” in the climate crisis. If the temperature rise continues, it could mean ocean warming, ice-cap melting, and sea-level rise are ahead of already calamitous forecasts. Red alert, folks!

Frequent derailments are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the destructive excesses of America’s for-profit train monopolies. Turns out Norfolk Southern is regularly using Indiana parking lots for mile-long trains forcing children — many of whom are low-income and desperate to get to school so they can have breakfast — to climb over, or under, the trains and risk their lives and limbs. Ambulances can’t get through, fire trucks can’t get through, and people have died or been disfigured after getting caught crossing a train as it roars to life.
House rejects Matt Gaetz’s pitch to withdraw US troops from Somalia
Congress can make for the strangest of bedfellows indeed. Though they had completely opposing motivations, Matt Gaetz and his white supremacist reactionary buddies and anti-imperialist House progressives joined together to demand an end to the bloody US troop presence in Somalia, which has never been authorized by Congress. Of course, the motley crew were quickly voted down by status-quo defenders from both sides of the aisle, but it is progress for those who don’t approve of America’s endless overseas wars. “Forcing a war powers vote is the boldest action taken by any member of Congress on Somalia in recent decades,” said Erik Sperling of the Just Foreign Policy think tank.

Special Counsel Jack Smith predictably had no comment, but hopefully…charges must be coming soon…right?

The degree to which neo-Nazis and white supremacists are mourning the loss of Tucker Carlson’s nightly broadcast is evidence of just how dangerous he was. “Tucker’s one of the last /ourguys/,” a 4chan user wrote in despair. “He amplified [my] reporting more than anyone else,” said January 6 conspiracist Darren Beattie. Tucker may have resurfaced on Twitter with a video from his house, but the current irrelevancy of his predecessors Bill O’Reilly and Megyn Kelly show how important primetime Fox News slots really are — and how much better off we are without the lot of them.
Paris Hilton visits DC to introduce bill, details abuse at “troubled teen” facility
The infamous hotel heiress traveled to Washington to introduce a bill addressing the dark and secretive world of the “troubled teen” reformation industry. Hilton detailed how she was kidnapped as a teen — with parental approval — by two men who dragged her from her home and took her to a facility to be further abused. “I was choked, slapped across the face, spied on while showering, and deprived of sleep. I was called vulgar names and forced to take medication without a diagnosis.” These kinds of facilities exploit exhausted parents who have understandably reached the end of their rope with difficult children — and subject them to hellish conditions to break them down into submission.

While the fight to save democracy can seem lonely at times, there are so many people across America doing vital work to keep it healthy. The more we link people together, the more change we can collectively achieve. Together is how we make the greatest impact!
Building a sense of community with like-minded individuals is a sure-fire way to strengthen the movement tenfold, which is why Markers for Democracy, Downtown Nasty Women Social Group, and Team Min are hosting “Postcarding and Political Conversation” events every Tuesday and Friday, from 9:30 am to 12 pm EDT, until the foreseeable future. Their goal is to “use our Sharpies to write to save democracy together,” as well as build community and hear from political leaders and candidates.
Just a few hours of your day could change everything. Your postcard could reach a reluctant voter, or you could join forces with someone across the country on an issue you’re both passionate about. The possibilities that come from connection are endless — you just have to take the leap.
