Florida poised to allow juries to sentence executions without unanimous vote
Not content using every lever of state government to attack the marginalized and downtrodden in every nook and cranny in the the Sunshine State, autocratic Gov. Ron DeSantis is now poised to sign into law drastic new changes to Florida’s implementation of capital punishment. Under the new law, juries would no longer require 12 unanimous votes to sentence someone to death. Instead, an 8-4 tally would be sufficient. Only three of the 27 states with capital punishment currently allow people to be executed when a jury is divided during the penalty phase.
