North Carolina company comes out against anti-trans bills
Replacements Ltd., a china, crystal, and silverware retail giant has come out strongly against state legislature that would curb the rights of transgender youth, making the company one of the first major businesses in the state to openly oppose the package of Republican-sponsored bills. The company says that it is “profoundly disturbed that legislators across the country have chosen to single out transgender and gender non-conforming persons, particularly children, for unfair and disparate treatment.” Now we just have to pressure every single other company in this country to issue a similar statement. Boycott bigotry!

Today’s Action: Pass federal abortion protections now!
A Trump-appointed judge’s recent decision to rescind FDA approval of the abortion pill has been a huge blow to reproductive rights in America, threatening a safe and accessible way for people to self-administer abortion care in the privacy of their own homes, particularly in states where other abortion procedures have been criminalized.
Regardless of what conservatives would like to be true, America is not a theocracy. More than 60% of Americans support legal abortion access. A legislator’s job is not to play God, it’s to serve their communities. Overturning Roe v. Wade set an extremely dangerous precedent for the treatment of anyone who isn’t a straight, religious, white, cisgender male — especially after Justice Thomas indicated his intent to review other landmark rulings, like the ones that legalized gay marriage and fought for privacy in the bedroom. It’s time to take a stand.
It is simply not enough to rely on blue-state facilities to serve as firewalls against the relentless legislative assault from anti-choice Republicans in red states; we must guarantee far-reaching reproductive healthcare throughout the most conservative nooks of our country. A bill has even been proposed in South Carolina that would make execution an option for those who receive an abortion — it’s as absurd as it is dangerous.
What at first felt like a terrifying possibility became a grim reality for half the country following last summer’s disastrous SCOTUS ruling. Whether it’s donating to a local abortion fund, finding a rally, or writing your members of Congress, your voice is needed in the struggle for federally protected abortion rights. You can find a comprehensive list of abortion funds to donate to here; states with conservative, Republican-dominated legislatures — Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana, in particular — are in dire need of support in the face of unrelenting attacks on women’s healthcare.

Today’s Action: Tell Congress to do MORE to reduce gun violence!
Last month, a disgruntled employee walked into Old National Bank in downtown Louisville and murdered five coworkers and injured eight more in Kentucky’s 50th mass shooting since 2014. This tragedy has left a permanent mark on atAdvocacy; Louisville is our home. Then, just weeks later, an intoxicated gun owner massacred five neighbors in Cleveland, Texas — including a nine-year-old boy — because they asked him to stop waking their baby with late-night, backyard gun fire. Then, just days ago, at least eight people were massacred at an outlet mall in Texas with the carnage going viral on social media. We barely have time to catch our collective breath before the next mass shooting makes headlines. There simply aren’t adequate words to express the continued loss we all experience just by living in America.
It’s long past time that we finally begin the job of curbing the epidemic of unspeakable — and very preventable — gun violence and pass the real, meaningful gun safety reform that is supported by a clear majority of Americans. The trauma is getting old.

Assault rifles are specifically designed to kill on the battlefield; there is no reason they should ever be in civilian hands. There were 735 mass shootings in the United States last year, up from 693 in 2021. Excluding suicide, there were 20,726 gun deaths in 2021, as well. According to the Washington Post, a child is shot every hour in America. We simply cannot stand idly by and let 2023 continue this horrific trend. The cause of this problem is clear — it’s the guns!
It’s unacceptable that after so much loss, our elected officials still haven’t managed to advance any meaningful anti-gun violence legislation through Congress. In the United States it is still legal to own an AR-15, the very killing machine that has been used time and time again to murder and maim innocent Americans en masse. AR-15-style rifles were used in the mass murders at Sandy Hook, Parkland, Aurora, Sutherland Springs, Las Vegas, San Bernardino, the Poway synagogue, the Tree of Life synagogue, the Buffalo supermarket, Uvalde, Louisville, Cleveland…the list goes on and on — and will continue to be used to massacre innocent civilians until we finally do something about it.
