Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s social media accounts have always been a festering cesspool of offensive and unhinged conspiracy theories, and she’s once again crossed the line with her recent posts about the monkeypox epidemic.
On July 23rd, Rep. Greene tweeted out a video of the CDC director discussing child infections with the comment “if Monkeypox is a sexually transmitted disease, why are kids getting it?”
When seen in the context of her recent demonization of gay people and the horrifying “groomer” discourse being pushed by the far-right wing, this can only be interpreted as an insinuation that gay men are sexually abusing children and giving them monkeypox.

Her followers certainly picked up what she was putting down. “Were the gay men who raped these children arrested and charged?” wrote one commenter. “Remember, the age of consent under Queer Theory is ZERO!” wrote another.
Declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization, monkeypox is spread through close contact with other humans, transmissible by respiratory droplets, bodily fluids, or skin-to-skin contact. It is NOT a STI.
But of course, virulent bigots like Greene have seized on the disease as a way to push their despicable demonization campaign against the American LGBTQ community.
