Mike Pompeo rips Trump over conservative bona fides on Fox News

The disgraced ex-president’s disgraced ex-secretary of state took potshots at his former boss’ conservative credentials on Fox News yesterday, accusing the Donald of peddling in identity politics and racking up trillions in debt — largely the result of a billionaire tax giveaway that was universally celebrated by the GOP. Pompeo, it must be noted, was an enthusiastic advocate and enabler of Trump for ALL four years of his disastrous term, and his conservative vision for the world is just as callously sadistic, authoritarian, and financially ruinous as Trump’s ever was.

Department of Homeland Security’s secret domestic intelligence program outed
For years, the Department of Homeland Security has run a virtually unknown program gathering domestic intelligence on Americans, causing a significant number of DHS employees to raise concerns that the work they are doing could be, you know, illegal. Since the Sept 11 terror attacks, the intelligence community has been playing fast and loose with our civil liberties, often without congressional approval or even knowledge. These new revelations raise serious questions about the span of their domestic spying programs and Congress should immediately call DHS in for a hearing — but of course, the “freedom-loving” GOP won’t care one bit.

“We have to remain vigilant”: Biden warns of “hate and extremism” in the US during Selma speech
President Biden paid tribute to the heroes of the “Bloody Sunday” civil rights march nearly 60 years ago and used its annual commemoration to warn of the ongoing threat to US democracy from right-wing demagogues, unhinged election deniers, and the Republican Party’s wholesale assault on voting rights.

The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is suing Exxon after 5 nooses were found at a Louisiana complex

The EEOC said ExxonMobil failed to take action after a Black employee discovered a noose at his workstation at the chemical plant in January 2020. At the time, it was the FOURTH noose uncovered at the Baton Rouge site — and a FIFTH was found at the end of that year.

17 states have tried to pass bills that strip powers from reform-minded prosecutors
In a growing backlash against reform-minded prosecutors, at least nine bills introduced this year across five states would strip power from democratically elected prosecutors in strongly liberal and Democratic cities and instead put it in the hands of Republicans holding statewide offices. GOP congressman and ex-White House doctor ripped for obnoxious Biden cancer comments
Republican Rep. Ronny Jackson, the former top White House physician, said “Biden is the cancer” on Sunday, after it was reported that the president had a cancerous lesion removed from his chest during a February physical. Jackson’s callous, lazy jab prompted angry blowback from Democrats, including Barack Obama, who pointedly chastised his one-time physician for his undignified behavior.

Today’s Action: Pass federal abortion protections now!

President Biden echoed one recurring call to action throughout the State of the Union last month, from immigration policy to police reform to climate change — it’s time for us to finish the job. One of the most important jobs? Codifying the right to an abortion at the federal level. It is simply not enough to rely on blue-state facilities to serve as firewalls against the relentless legislative assault from anti-choice Republicans in red states; we must guarantee far-reaching reproductive healthcare throughout the most conservative nooks of our country. A bill has even been proposed in South Carolina that would make execution an option for those who receive an abortion — it’s as absurd as it is dangerous.

Regardless of what conservatives would like to be true, America is not a theocracy. Over 60% of Americans support legal abortion access. A legislator’s job is not to play God, it’s to serve their communities. Overturning Roe v. Wade set an extremely dangerous precedent for the treatment of anyone who isn’t a straight, religious, white, cisgender male — especially after Justice Thomas indicated his intent to review other landmark rulings, like the ones that legalized gay marriage and fought for privacy in the bedroom. It’s time to take a stand.

Call (202-224-3121) or write your members of Congress and demand they finish the job and codify Roe v. Wade immediately!

What at first felt like a terrifying possibility became a grim reality for half the country following last summer’s disastrous SCOTUS ruling. Whether it’s donating to a local abortion fund, finding a rally, or writing to your members of Congress, your voice is needed in the struggle for federally protected abortion rights. You can find a comprehensive list of abortion funds to donate to here; states with conservative legislatures — Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana, in particular — are in dire need of support in the face of unrelenting attacks on women’s healthcare.

Call (202-224-3121) or write your members of Congress to tell them to codify Roe v. Wade before the Supreme Court guts a woman’s right to choose!
