BREAKING: Trump loses appeal to block Pence from testifying about direct communications

MTG attacks teachers’ union head for not being a “biological mother”
The Georgia rep unleashed a gleefully vicious conspiracy-driven tirade against American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten, insinuating that she wasn’t a “real mother” because she was a stepmom. Her behavior was so atrocious that Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia stepped in to apologize.

“Donald Trump raped me,” writer says at civil trial
It’s been a long time coming, but E. Jean Carroll has finally had her day in court — and Donald Trump is finally facing SOME kind of accountability for his alleged serial sexual predation. “He lied and shattered my reputation, and I’m here to try and get my life back,” said Carroll in her powerful testimony. “As I’m sitting here today I can still feel it. It left me unable to ever have a romantic life again.” Trump did not deign to attend nor will he have to testify, but he earned himself a rebuke from the judge for his atrocious comments on Truth Social about the case, which we will not dignify by reprinting.

Disney sues DeSantis, calling theme park takeover retaliation for “Don’t Say Gay” opposition
Ron DeSantis’ homophobic crusade has earned him a lawsuit from his state’s biggest employer. Disney accuses the governor of waging “a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for” speaking out against his bigoted “Don’t Say Gay” laws. It’s a classic game of man vs mouse, except in this case the man has a fascism fetish and the mouse has a $176 billion market cap.

Montana House Republicans ban Rep. Zooey Zephyr from House chamber for remainder of legislative session
Montana’s first-ever trans Rep. was banned from entering the statehouse for the remainder of the 2023 session for telling the GOP that they had “blood on their hands” for passing a slew of draconian anti-trans legislation. “I have had friends who have taken their lives because of these bills … When I rose up and said, ‘There is blood on your hands,’ I was not being hyperbolic!” said Zephyr in her concluding remarks before the vote. Once again, tyrannical Republicans have abused their power to subvert democracy by denying voters’ chosen representative their right to speak — a tactic they will employ more and more often until voters make it clear they’ve had enough.
Tucker Carlson’s vulgar language in texts contributed to Fox News firing – report
Apparently Tucker Carlson’s internal text messages, including one in which he described a female Fox exec as a c**t, played a role in his firing from Fox News. Of course, that’s very hard to believe considering the notorious boys’ club culture of sexual harassment and assault that pervades the Fox building and Carlson’s previous *public* statements, which include calling Iraqis “semiliterate primitive monkeys.” More likely this is just Murdoch’s lackeys attempting to put a woke face on what rumors say is a very personal firing to spite Murdoch’s ex-fiancee, who believes Tucker is a “messenger from God.”
Peter Thiel, Republican megadonor, won’t fund candidates in 2024
It appears the billionaire tech vampire has had enough of the GOP’s obsessive fixation on anti-LGBTQ culture war bigotry and is pulling his hat out of the race, which is probably very good news for Democrats — except for the fact that Thiel’s hand-picked candidates, like Blake Masters, have usually crashed and burned come Election night.
GOP Senator Tommy Tuberville blocks 184 military promotions
The Alabama Senator, whose only military experience is coaching the losing team at the 2014 Military Bowl, is singlehandedly blocking nearly 200 promotions that military officers have earned because he objects to the Pentagon’s policy to provide troops and their family members paid leave and stipends to travel for abortions or for fertility treatments and is refusing to back down until the policy is rescinded. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has warned that the holdup harms our troop readiness, but it appears there’s nothing the GOP won’t endanger — be it women’s lives or our national security — in their obsessive culture war crusades.
Joe Manchin backstabs Dems to roll back Biden’s trucking emissions standards
The conservative fossil fuel lackey is furious that his little pipeline plans keep getting held up by the EPA, so he’s finding other ways to pollute the environment and funnel more money into Big Oil’s pockets. Fortunately, the White House has already said the President will veto the rollback — but the dangers of Senator Feinstein’s continued absence were made very clear when Manchin’s flip allowed a GOP bill to sail 50-49 through the Senate.
Amid contradictory laws, hospitals in one state were unable to explain policies on emergency abortion care, study finds
Republicans’ anti-abortion laws are so sloppy that hospitals in Oklahoma don’t know what is actually legal for them to do or even what constitutes a “medical emergency.” Several hospitals have stopped providing even medically necessary, lifesaving abortions while others are providing information that is actually wrong — just the latest example of how pRo-liFE policies get people killed.

Today’s Action: Support Pittsburgh Post-Gazette workers on strike!
Union members at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette have been on strike for more than six months — the longest newspaper strike in decades — demanding better healthcare and wages. While their strike has yet to yield compassionate action from their employers, an administrative judge justly ruled in the union’s favor two months ago, castigating Post-Gazette executives who “negotiated in bad faith, unlawfully imposed working conditions, and illegally surveilled workers engaged in union activities.” National Labor Relations Board Judge Geoffrey Carter’s ruling could award the newspaper’s employees as much as $4 million in collective backpay, a potentially huge win for labor. It also compels management to bargain in good faith and reinstate the mutually negotiated union contract from 2017.
The heartless, greedy, unlawful moves made by the Post-Gazette’s owners — and Jan. 6 insurrection supporters, it should be noted — stripped employees of crucial benefits and rightful earnings (remember that $4 million?). Unsurprisingly, the paper has yet to make any of these issues right, and the union needs our unwavering solidarity until they do.
Donate to the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh’s strike solidarity fund to match the union-busting bonuses being pocketed by people crossing the picket line! While you’re at it, sign the guild’s petition to have the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s insurrectionist co-owner Allan Block removed from the board of directors of C-SPAN!
PS — Please don’t forget to sign the petition demanding Republicans reinstate the trans rep they banned, and be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
