Contrary to the Trump clan’s claims, they did not give the Secret Service free rooms at the Trump Hotel. On the contrary, they charged them wildly inflated prices — five times the rate set by the government — and funneled $1.4 million in taxpayer money into their pockets.

Two of America’s largest supermarkets are merging
Kroger announced Friday that it plans to buy Albertsons in a nearly $25 billion deal that represents the latest in corporate consolidation and monopolistic control over the market. With very little competition, companies are free to raise prices at their leisure and squeeze even more blood from the American middle class.

Dr. Oz claims he drank his own pee, was forced to do so in medical school
After an old video with Jimmy Kimmel surfaced, it appears we can add “pee sommelier” to Oz’s resume of dog-killing, sister-stabbing, and snake oil-selling. For the record, you do not have to drink your own pee in medical school.

Kanye West announces purchase of right-wing, extremist social media platform
After spending the weekend with far-right commentator Candace Owens, Ye announced he would be buying “Parler,” a sanctuary for those kicked off of other social media sites for being too racist. Misogynistic online smear campaign against Amber Heard targets other women
The hysterical harassment and social media abuse campaign directed at Amber Heard by clout-chasing influencers has turned its attention to Angelina Jolie, whose disturbing accusations of domestic abuse by her ex-husband Brad Pitt became public in recent legal filings. While it may not seem like a big story, the existence of an algorithmic online economy devoted to demonizing abuse survivors, mainstreaming misogynistic tropes, and profiting off the anguish of women is yet another deeply disturbing low for American society.

Herschel Walker tries to turn “prop” badge controversy into campaign gold
The bumbling GOP Senate candidate, moving seamlessly from an abortion scandal into a pretending-to-be-a-cop scandal, is attempting to do damage control by making a thousand fake badges so his supporters can also pretend they are cops. One might think drawing MORE attention to this embarrassment might not be the best strategy, but Walker’s campaign has been putting on a masterclass in running a bad campaign.

Landmark trial begins over Arkansas’ ban on transgender youth care
US District Judge Jay Moody will hear testimony and evidence starting this week over the law he temporarily blocked last year prohibiting doctors from providing gender-confirming hormone treatment, puberty blockers, or surgery to anyone under 18 years old. It also prevents doctors from referring patients elsewhere for such care.

US, Mexico call for Haiti security mission to confront gangs
For the fourth time in nearly a century, the United States is preparing to intervene in Haiti as a gang-fueled humanitarian crisis unfolds. The mission would be conducted under the auspices of the United Nations, whose previous “peacekeeping” mission in Haiti that ran from 2004-2017 was heavily criticized for, among other damning atrocities, triggering a deadly cholera epidemic and enabling and ignoring heinous, troop-run child sex rings. Feeling brave? Google “MINUSTAH babies” and hang on to your seat.

21 days. The 2022 midterm election will be here in three short weeks. There’s not a second to spare to do absolutely everything we can to hold onto the House and Senate and continue advancing our progressive, equitable, 21st-century agenda.

Ask yourself: what are you fighting for this November? Combatting white supremacy and xenophobia? Ending voter suppression? Ensuring equitable access to healthcare and protecting coverage for pre-existing conditions? Sane climate change policy? Humane immigration procedures? Women’s rights and abortion access? Ending corporate-centered politics?

All of these issues and so much more are at stake. We have the voters…but we need all their votes. You don’t have to put in major volunteer hours to help get out the vote, but every little bit helps — and this fight starts at home and in your community.

Every vote matters. Check your voter registration status at and ensure you’re prepared for the upcoming election on Nov. 8th – and tell your network to do the same on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter!
