Rutgers faculty declares strike in historic showdown between unions, state university
Negotiations have stalled over new contracts for the 9,000 Rutgers University professors as they demand pay rises, more job security, affordable housing for grad students and forgiveness for students’ overdue fines and fees. While university president Jonathan Holloway claims the two sides are close to a deal, union reps claim the university has rejected nine out of fifteen union proposals and ignored another entirely. It is the first faculty strike in Rutgers’ 257 year history. Go get those raises!

Hounded by baseless voter fraud allegations, an entire county’s election staff quits in Virginia
Conspiracy-addled Trump Republicans are steadfastly trying to undermine our democracy by terrorizing, harassing, or otherwise abusing the election workers whose hard work turns the bureaucratic electoral wheels. “There were people saying that they had heard all these rumors — that the attorney general was going to indict me, Mentally, I just — I couldn’t take it anymore,” recounted a heartbroken Lindsey Taylor as she told NBC News how a right-wing harassment campaign drove her to quit a job she loved.

Donald Trump Jr. torched for creating anti-trans scenario “that never happens”
It’s easy to see today’s Republican Party as a bunch of jerks who enrich the wealthiest and most powerful by trampling the rights and opportunities of the 99%, but don’t forget, they’re also hard at work solving problems that don’t exist. While on a podcast, Don Jr. promoted the baseless right-wing narrative that teachers are forcing toddlers to become trans, which transparently tells us that this preposterous smear is not only about imposing conservative social values on America but also about breaking the teachers’ unions, which stand in the way of the Republican dream of turning our public schools into for-profit enterprises that get to exclude black kids.

Today’s Action: Pass federal abortion protections now!

Regardless of what conservatives would like to be true, America is not a theocracy. More than 60% of Americans support legal abortion access. A legislator’s job is not to play God, it’s to serve their communities. Overturning Roe v. Wade set an extremely dangerous precedent for the treatment of anyone who isn’t a straight, religious, white, cisgender male — especially after Justice Thomas indicated his intent to review other landmark rulings, like the ones that legalized gay marriage and fought for privacy in the bedroom. It’s time to take a stand.

It is simply not enough to rely on blue-state facilities to serve as firewalls against the relentless legislative assault from anti-choice Republicans in red states; we must guarantee far-reaching reproductive healthcare throughout the most conservative nooks of our country. A bill has even been proposed in South Carolina that would make execution an option for those who receive an abortion — it’s as absurd as it is dangerous.

Call (202-224-3121) or write your members of Congress and demand they finish the job and codify Roe v. Wade immediately!

What at first felt like a terrifying possibility became a grim reality for half the country following last summer’s disastrous SCOTUS ruling. Whether it’s donating to a local abortion fund, finding a rally, or writing to your members of Congress, your voice is needed in the struggle for federally protected abortion rights. You can find a comprehensive list of abortion funds to donate to here; states with conservative, Republican-dominated legislatures — Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana, in particular — are in dire need of support in the face of unrelenting attacks on women’s healthcare.

Call (202-224-3121) or write your members of Congress to tell them to codify Roe v. Wade before the Supreme Court guts a woman’s right to choose!
