Reject the GOP congressional candidate who disputes pregnancy after rape!
Target: Virginia voters
Republican candidate for Virginia Representative, Yesli Vega, made shocking statements at a campaign event minimizing the possibility of pregnancy by rape. Vega is quoted saying “The left will say, ‘Well what about in cases of rape or incest?’ I’m a law enforcement officer. I became a police officer in 2011. I’ve worked one case where as a result of a rape, the young woman became pregnant.”
Yesli Vega is using her history in law enforcement to corroborate one of the most harmful anti-choice talking points in the book, it’s reprehensible. The candidate cited no sources behind her claim, just that “there’s so much going on in the body. I don’t know. I haven’t, you know, seen any studies… Because it’s not something that’s happening organically. You’re forcing it. The individual, the male, is doing it as quickly — it’s not like, you know — and so I can see why there is truth to that. It’s unfortunate.” This is not the type of person we need making decisions in our country, especially with national abortion rights at stake.
